The Campo del Cielo meteorite was the first found by a Spanish expedition on a high plain in Argentina in 1576. Campo is an iron meteorite that fell between 4,000 - 6,000 years ago. Campo del Cielo literally translates to field of the sky, and native oral traditions speak of a rock that fell from the heavens.
