Condition:

This is a IDAS Nebula Booster NBZ 48mm filter in excellent condition. The optics are clean and the body is unmarked. Includes the jewel case and original scan report. Any dust you see in the photos is easily removable - it seems that these filters develop an electrostatic charge such that the dust in the air is just attracted to the filter.

Description:

The IDAS Nebula Booster 48mm Filter is designed to enhance the contrast of Ha (Hydrogen Alpha) and OIII (Oxygen II) emission nebula while accommodating the filter spectral shift when used with modern fast optical systems. This dual-band filter is ideal for one-shot color cameras, as well as mono-color astronomical cameras.

Proprietary IDAS Sophisticated Optics Technology

Ion-Gun Assist Deposition (IGAD) coating technology is used by IDAS for these astronomical filters. This results in superior filters with robust coatings and long-term spectral stability, even with temperature and humidity extremes. This stability is especially important for bandpass curves with steep slopes (narrowband filters). This technology helps to virtually eliminate bandpass shifts from the +/-3 or 4nm typical of standard coating filters.

The Multi Bandpass Technology (MBT) is used in conjunction with the IGAD hard-coating technology to further elevate IDAS filters. This technology allows IDAS to create very complicated filters for astronomical use.

Ultra Fine Polish (UFP) Finishing really sets IDAS filters apart from the competition. They are polished twice as long as is typical for optical glass. In combination with the use of high-quality substrate glass, no scratches, bubbles, or other defects are visible even under microscopic inspection.

This filter has ideal flat-top bandpass, as well as in-band transmission. The off-center bandpass accommodates off-axis rays for fast optics (up to f/2). The steep bandpass edges help to minimize internal reflections. It is able to fully block NIR up to 1200nm.

The IDAS NBZ-II is a dual band nebula booster filter - the successor to the NBZ (UHS) filter. The FWHM of the NBZ-II is 8nm (+/=0.4nm) at OIII, and 10nm (+/-0.4nm) at H-alpha respectively. This has the same anti-Haloing characteristics as the NBZ did.

Feature:

The transmittance curve of interference filters will naturally shift towards the shorter wave length side against oblique light incidence, and this tendency will be more noticeable as the inncidence angle becomes higher as shown in the following figure.

Some of the competitive 7nm or narrower filters will decrease in transmittance by 50% or more when used in a fast optical system (around F2), while the NBZ=II retains 80% or more of the transmittance under the same conditions.

The shift tendency will be stronger in optical systems that have a central obstruction. Taking this into consideration, we have designed the NBZ-II as you can see from the following simulations:
